Kitui Sisal Basket: Black
HANDWOVEN IN KENYA
✓ Eco-Positive
✓ Handcrafted
✓ Social Impact
This practical and beautiful tall basket is handwoven from sisal and banana fiber by talented women in rural Kenya. Sisal grows well in the semi-arid climate of eastern Kenya, and its spiky leaves contain long fibers that can be extracted for weaving.
Responsibly sourced and thoughtfully crafted with local sisal and banana fiber by Fair Trade artisans in Kenya. In the rural Kenyan countryside around the city of Kitui, women specialize in weaving the tough fibers of the agave sisalana plant. Sisal's spiky leaf clusters erupt from a dry landscape and often requires long journeys to gather.
*We recommend spraying lightly with cold water to reshape baskets, as needed.
